Playing it cool

Seeing as though I haven't blogged in a while I thought I would make my latest post an outfit post.

Last night, I went out for my friends birthday celebrations. Being a student in Newcastle, I usually only go out during the week as it is cheaper, which often means it's only fellow students out as well.

When I go out during the week, I like to make an effort but not look too over the top - students are known for their laid back, cool, affordable but stylish attire. However, last night was a Saturday so I was a bit stuck with what to wear.
This is my outfit I decided to go for. I chose this because I felt it was fashionable and looked as though I had made more of an effort than normal, as lately I have just been opting for metallic/leather leggings to keep me warm.
This bronze, lace skirt is lovely and so easy to wear. I think skater skirts suit almost everyone and can be worn in a variety of ways. I have worn this skirt with a jumper before and plan to wear it with a blouse too.
Crop tops are everywhere at the moment and I love this one from New Look, which was also a bargain at £7.99.
Boots and frilly socks are my favourite combination at the moment and I think they worked really well with this outfit. They also look great during the day time with chelsea boots or converse so I definately reccommend picking yourself a pair up!

A Black & White Era

A lot of the best things come in black and white. The old classic films such as Breakfast at Tiffanys and Some Like it Hot. The legendary actresses Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe that star in them with their natural beauty and elegance. An old novel - Oliver Twist is still a charming read. Twiggy's iconic photograph from the sixties which still remains one of fashions most famous photos to this day. Fashion has always known this but lately the high street has had a lot more to offer on the simple but timeless trend.

There is a new era of black and white. Moschino used the simplicity of monochrome to create these looks in their SS13 collection and the high street offers some truly spectacular versions for you to get your hands on.

You could take this look to the next level and add it to you beauty regime. Darker eyebrows combined with white & black eyeliner would guarntee you to stand out in the fashion crowd.

My Miracle worker

So yesterday I woke up with horrificly chapped lips that looked disgusting when I tried to put a new lipstick on I had been excited to wear. The cold weather always affects my lips quite a lot but this time they were chapped badly even for me.
Usually I just use my tub of Vaseline or my pot of Body Shop lip balm but this time nothing was really having an affect.
Whilst out shopping I called in Primark and bought some new tights and whilst at the till I noticed these tubes of Carmex. I've seen my friends use Carmex before but have always just thought it's another version of Vaseline so I don't need it. However, it was only £1 so I thought i'd give it a try.
Definately £1 well spent! I started using it straight away and that evening before bed could already tell a difference. I put some on before bed and woke up with almost perfect lips.
Yes, they are still slightly chapped but I have never seen such a quick difference. I am still going to keep using it until they are completely back to normal. Carmex is the best thing I could reccommend for chapped lips and is a bargain.

Pampering Perfection

Possibly one of my favourite Christmas presents this year, Fearne Cottons Bag of Treats is without doubt the perfect way to pamper your skin.
The set includes body lotion, body polish, body spray and a white shower scrub which I haven't included in the picture as it is currently in my shower.
My skin has been feeling a bit neglected lately. I've been working a lot recently so haven't had the chance to pamper my skin quite as much as I'd like to but this set has worked wonders.
Using the body wash with the body scrub in the shower has really exfoliated my skin well. I believe it is very important to moisturise your whole body once you have showered to stop it drying out and prevent aging. The sets scent smells heavenly and I am having to limit my usage as I want it to last forever!
The body spray is also very handy, I use my normal perfume in the morning but I've popped it in my bag incase I need a refresh during the day.
The bag which the lotions come in has also come in handy. I've needed to buy a new make-up bag for ages and this fits the bill prefectly. Nautical is in fashion so it's given me a stylish make-up bag as well!
This set is gorgeous and was definately one of my favourite gifts I recieved. I will definately be buying it for myself next year as well as for my friends!

Arlissa

arlissa

Just when I thought there are that many musicians out there these days that there couldn't possibly be new sounds to hear, Arlissa comes along and completely changes my mind.
You may of seen her on the New Year's Eve Top of the Pops performing her single 'Sticks and Stones' which has a mixture of urban and indie beats creating a unique, vibrant sounds that you will want to dance and maybe, like me, sing along to. The song reminds me of folk music which I am not normally a fan of yet for some reason I can't  get enough of it.

Signed to London Records, the 19 year old, half-italian, half-german musician has lived in London almost all her life. The Guardian has described her as a mixture of Jessie Ware and Florence and The Machine, but I think her sound is different; she has a talent you couldn't compare.

She recently wrote "Hard to Love Somebody" which lead to a duet with Nas and definately put her on the singer/song writer radar.
The upbeat mellow backing track combined with the beautiful lyrics depicting the loss of love combine to make a song which, well I can't stop listening to.

Arlissa definately has a fan in me... especially as she is one to watch out for in the style stakes as well as being truly talented.
