I'm moving...

Hello and thank you for visiting my blog www.fernlucy.blogspot.com.

Over the past few weeks I've been considering changing to WordPress as it has been recommended to me so many times. At first I was a little dubious as I love my blog, but after a play around I understood why.

Yesterday, I converted to WordPress and imported this blog to my new blog:

It is so much easier to format and upload posts that I couldn't resist changing.
I still have all the same content but in a much better format.

So, please head along there and help me to improve my Stats... and if you currently follow this blog please follow that one too!

Thank you,

The Zara Skort

zara skort
For a long time now I have wanted this beautiful skort from Zara. However, I have stopped myself from buying it due to the fact that it’s so popular. This, of course, is a good thing but I just hate it when you’re out somewhere and you see someone wearing the same thing as you.
Sure, we all have our own sense of style and different body shapes, so the chances of bumping into someone in the exact same outfit are slim. Yet, it still put me off for so long.
Finally, on Friday whilst shopping in Leeds I purchased it. I just could not resist any longer. There were two left, my size and a bigger one so I took it as fate. It was calling out to me and I knew I had no choice but to buy it. We were meant to be.
I am sooo so SO glad I did. I just love it. I haven’t yet worn it as I’m saving it for a special occasion to debut it. Once I have though I doubt I’ll ever take it off. I am now even considering buying the orange version! It is just so versatile and could be worn a variety of ways – the perfect wardrobe piece.
The one thing I have learnt from this is to just buy something you want regardless of how many other people have it. It obviously means you have good taste… and choosing not to purchase something you want so badly is just torture! Silly me!
What have you been lusting after lately?

Playlist

Music plays a big part in everyone’s lives, especially mine. I am addicted to my Ipod. I listen to it whilst on the bus, walking the dog, on a run and when I’m getting ready. So, for a change of theme, today I though I’d share with you a few songs which are currently top of my playlist.
On the Run – Jay-z & Beyonce (not official video)
These are a few of my current favourites… what are yours?

#FFFILE–Laura Whitmore

You will probably recognise Laura Whitmore as an MTV presenter however in my opinion she is also a fashionista.
Her style is impeccable – she always appears sophisticated, cool and well put together. Here are a few of my favourite looks.

Clutch Control

Whilst sorting my wardrobe out the other day, I noticed I actually own quite a few clutch bags. This actually made me realise how much I love clutch bags so I thought I’d share with you my favourites.
clutch1
In my opinion, black and cream clutches are the most versatile. They go with any colour combination and work in both winter and summer. My black one has accompanied me on many occasions and is from Dorothy Perkins. My cream one is actually from Primark, bought in a hurry one day when I couldn’t find anything else. Since then it has served me well.
My white and pink pastel coloured one is from Accessorize. I bought this for a wedding and have loved it ever since. It works well with any outfit and is particularly good in summer.
The neon green one was a more recent purchase. A bargain from New Look, I bought it to go with a black outfit. Neon is big for SS13 and this clutch added a pop of colour to a more simple dress.
Finally, my favourite. My woven multi-coloured bag was just £5 from Primark! I love it! It’s probably the biggest clutch I own - I can fit a pair of flat shoes in there which gives it extra brownie points. It is fairly new and so far I have only used it once, however I think it’s something I could use every summer.
The other day I was having a browse in Matalan and come across these clutches.
clutch2
I am a huge fan of the Aztec patterns around at the minute and love the detail on these. For now I have enough clutch bags to keep me going although if I do buy another, this will be it.

Coral Touch

Coral is one of my favourite colours for summer. It reminds me of holidays, sunshine and cocktails and is generally just a beautiful colour.

My current summer staples are my coral bag and coral nail varnish.

Coral1

My lovely coral bag is perfect for my summer needs. It’s the perfect size to hold my purse, sunglasses, sun cream, make-up and a drink. Versatile and pretty; it compliment’s most of my summer outfits and (in my opinion) looks more expensive than it was. From ASOS, it was an excellent investment.

Coral nail varnish is currently my favourite shade to paint my nails.

coral2

I recently purchased these two shades from Barry M. Peach Melba (left) is more of a muted, pastel orange. Papaya (right) is from Barry M’s new Gelly range and is my favourite. It provides a high shine and is the shade of coral.

I recently painted my nails Peach Melba with one Papaya nail. coral4            coral3

Pretty and simple – this is currently my favourite way to paint my nails.

Currently, I am on the hunt for the perfect coral lipstick. Being pale and blonde, I don’t want to go too bright. I haven’t found the perfect one yet but my quest continues. Watch this space…

Co-ordinated & Sophisticated

Co-ordinated separates are the perfect way to update your look. Popular on the catwalks and on the high street – they are an absolute necessity for your wardrobe.
When thinking of matching separates the first thing which springs to mind is the iconic image of Elle Woods aka Legally Blonde. Whilst Elle manages to pull off the ultimate girlish look: a bright pink suit with matching hat, it’s not quite the look I personally desire.

Co-ordinates can be simple,  patterned or bold – whichever works best for you. Whether it’s a monochrome pattern like Chloe or chess board print like Louis Vuitton the co-ordination trend has something to suit every one.

The likes of Millie Mackintosh and Laura Whitmore have been pictured rocking the trend and rocking it well!  Millie’s suit is perfect for a chic and smart summer look. Laura manages to combine the metallic trend and the matching with this masculine suit. By wearing a white polo necked top and exposing her midriff underneath she has managed to make this look ultra feminine.
If you’re looking for the perfect matching set on a budget then look no further than the high street. Topshop, Zara and River Island all have a great range of separates to get your hands on.
I know I’ll be buying a matching outfit… will you?

#FFFILE

Fern’s Fash Files are going to be a new regular feature to my blog which will focus on people I find inspiring in the fashion world.

My first Fash File is dedicated to Millie Mackintosh.
Mille is a make-up artist and a regular on Made in Chelsea however she is also quickly becoming one of my favourite British style icon’s. In her appearances on MIC she regularly looks flawless: perfect make-up, perfect hair and chic but comfortable clothing.
Her own website millie-mackintosh.com includes her own blog and style diary which I check regularly. Here are a few of my favourite looks which she has put together.

A Busy Bee...

For the past two weeks I have been working at Dinosaur PR as an intern which has been an insightful experience.

Unfortunately, in this time I haven't blogged as much however now I am back and ready to write again!

A little about my time at Dinosaur PR

Dinosaur PR is an agency based in Leeds which delivers PR strategy's to a broad range of clients. They special in online PR and marketing which is becoming increasingly important as technology develops.
I enjoyed my time there and learnt a lot! Online PR helps a company so much, it reaches out to a much larger audience than traditional PR and achieves good results.

Whilst there I wrote several blog posts for Student Wire - a social media platform belonging to one of their clients, a blog post for Dinosaur PR's own website and blog posts for other clients as well. I learnt a lot about PR campaigns and over all I feel I have a much better understanding of the PR world.

Race For Life

I also recently completed the 10k Race for Life in Leeds with two of my friends.
Cancer research is an amazing charity and I'm so glad we did something to help them. We managed to raise £155 which was more than our target. I'll definitely be doing it again next year and I think you should too!

Cara Delevingne

Cara’s presence is something you cannot escape.

At just 20 years old she has already graced the cover of Vogue, been the face of various advertising campaigns such as Burberry, H&M and Zara. Her popularity on the runway is huge – she has modelled collections for the likes of Emilio Pucci, Dolce and Gabbana, Victoria’s Secret and Chanel.

She is lucky enough to have celebrity friends including Rita Ora and Rihanna and has been snapped various times with Karl Lagerfield himself... is there any wonder I'm envious?

So what is it about Cara? Her trademark eyebrows, her celebrity friends or her amazing face and figure?
There are thousands of beautiful models but Cara shines. Her popularity is huge. In my opinion, it’s her obviously fun personality which has launched her success on such a huge scale. She has been papped a variety of times pulling some hilarious faces and always looks like she is enjoying herself.

Follow her on Instagram and you will become acquainted with her comical t-shirts, funny face pulling, large eyebrows, celebrity friends and iconic looks.

She's my current girl crush... who's yours?

Versace Resort 2014

As I mentioned below, Resort wear is designed for the extravagant jet-setter. The clothing is designed to meet the needs of the year round traveller. Garments are versatile, enchanting and ready to wear.

Versace’s resort 2014 collection debuted in New York on Friday and certainly did not disappoint.

The collection included an essence of the sailor through large buttons, stripes and checks in a beautiful turquoise blue that resembles a Mediterranean sea.

Low waist skirts and trousers combined with cropped tops added sex appeal to the outfits.

Stunning white dresses and skirts with thigh splits channelled the expensive glamour Versace is renowned for.

Bold but delicate floral prints, crisp whites, succulent yellows and girlish pinks contributed to the collections versatility making it suitable for any occasion that a stylish traveller would need.

Nina Ricci - Resort 2014

Resort wear is always beautifully crafted. It is designed for the glamorous jet-setter destined for paradise.

Nina Ricci's collection is full of extravagant feminine pieces that would look perfect on the elegant and sophisticated woman. They are the type of clothes that you could simply throw on last minute and still look bewitching. Co-ordinate tailoring, juicy limes, mild yellows, flirty skirts, girly frills and floral prints contribute to making this collection wonderfully charming.

Here are a few of my favourite items however the whole collection is worth a look.

My own Deirdre Barlow's...

In my last post I talked about my love of round sunglasses so I thought I'd update you with my latest lovely pair! This time I bought some online from boohoo.com which I initially thought could be risky due to being unable to try them on. I'm quite picky when making any purchase as I like to be 100% sure I am happy with my item. However, to my surprise I liked them immediately.

I love the cream and silver frame, they are simple but cool and will go with any outfit.
However, it has already been pointed out to me that they resemble a young Deirdre Barlow's glasses but I have decided to embrace this. Trends always come back around so you could say I used Deirdre as inspiration. Although, I will only be saying this about her glasses and nothing else.

Shadey Ladies

 Sunglasses- the summer staple.
Yes ladies, it's time to get shadey! Remember a good pair of sunglasses can do a lot of things. They protect your eyes from the sun, compliment your outfit and are the perfect way to hide your face when not wanting to be seen. Therefore, buying the correct pair is an important decision and one NOT to be rushed.
Sunglasses come in so many shapes and sizes it is important you choose the correct ones. If you have a small face and nose, then you don’t want them too large as you may look slightly bug like. If your jaw is a square shape I would avoid square glasses and go for something more circular or aviators.

This year round sunglasses are everywhere. It's time to take inspiration from the legend that is John Lennon. Beyonce, Rihanna and Rita Ora have all been seen sporting a circular pair and if it’s good enough for them then it’s good enough for us!

These sunglasses were an absolute bargain from Peacocks. They were only £5 and I bought them as a tester pair. At first I was unsure whether I would suit them but now I have fallen in love. So much that I am currently on the lookout for another pair in a lighter shade. The high street has cottoned on to the trend so I’m sure it’ll be an easy task.
The dream pair would be from Wild Fox. There sunglasses are gorgeous but unfortunately don’t work with my student budget. If you want to make a serious investment in your shades then I would definitely recommend checking them out!
Are you on the lookout for some round shades?

Bloglovin

Find and follow me on Bloglovin now!

I'll tell ya what I want, what I really, REALLY want...

Ahhhhhhhhh! Saving for a holiday is so hard... especially when I am lusting after these jumpsuits!

I am absolutely in love with this floral jumpsuit and need it in my life soon! I think jumpsuit's are very flattering for everyone especially lanky girls like myself.

I also love this nude jumpsuit and think it would look chic but cool for any occasion. Both from Topshop, they are £60 each and would be investment pieces for any girls wardrobe.

However, currently I am being a good girl and saving my money for my jolly hols in August. August is a long time away though, so you never know...

Newcastle Fashion Week

Recently I was lucky enough to gain some work experience with Newcastle Fashion week.

It was an amazing opportunity and I'm really glad I did it. On my first day I worked at Newcastle Fashion weekend at Northumbria Student's union and was lucky enough to meet Victoria White - the editor of Company magazine.

Victoria is actually from Newcastle and has had a career which I am very jealous of. In April I attended the Company fashion forum in Manchester where I met her and other industry professional's. They were very informative of how to get into the fashion industry and the key thing I learnt was that it is crucial to stand out and work hard.

I was also featured on their website following this which was a bonus!

Working at Newcastle Fashion week was very insightful. The fashion industry is stressful but definately worth it! I helped pop up shops to get set up, dressed and styled models, made sure everything was on schedule and generally did what I was asked.

I am really glad I took part, not only will it look great on my CV but I feel much more confident in my abilties and know it is definately the industry I'd like to be involved in. I would definately advise anyone else wanting to work in fashion to get any related work experience you can, no matter how big or small.

The Flapper

If I could choose to be from any other era than the current it would be the 1920's. Simply because I want to be a flapper.

For me, flappers are a symbol of emancipation for women. They stepped into the 1920's and broke all the rules. Short hair, short skirts, lots of make-up and plenty of partying - these women were a new breed. They drank, stayed out late, smoked, drove and generally had a good time. They changed the way women were percieved and proved how independant and strong we are.

Their fashion was amazing. Dresses were tassled, beaded, shortened, embrodied, laced and loosened. Stockings were on show and hair was bobbed, waved and dyed. Coco Chanel introduced shift dresses, long loose blouses and of course, the staple black dress. The way women dressed was changed for ever.

Recently, I celebrated my 21st. I've always loved the flapper style so decided this would be the theme of my celebrations. I opted for a modern twist on the dress, teamed with a feather boa and a head piece. Flapper dresses are timeless - this dress will remain in my wardrobe for many years to come.

Dress- Asos

The Great Gatsby hits the big screen on May the 10th. Set in the 1920's it tells a tale of writer who moves to New York. Here he meets Gatsby and the story unfolds. Whilst I have read the book and love the story, I am most excited for the costumes. Catherine Martin worked with Miuccia Prada to create the dresses which, from what I have seen from the trailer, are divine.

The soundtrack is also worth a listen! Emeli Sande's cover of Crazy In Love is amazing!

You also need to check out Andre 3000's and Beyonces version of Amy Winehouse's Back to Black.

Green Fever

Neon is a big hit this season and I just can't get enough! Bright oranges, greens, pinks and yellows seem to be everywhere on the high street and are definately a wadrobe staple.

I've already purchased a neon orange top which I love and mentioned in a previous post however now I can't get enough of green.

Cami's are one of my favourite things to wear in summer so when I spotted this green one on Missguided I couldn't resist. Floaty but simple, it's the perfect way to incorporate the neon trend into your wardrobe without feeling too over the top. I can't wait to wear it with some high waisted pants, shorts or perhaps even a midi skirt.

Accessores are key to finishing off any outfit and I love this statement necklace and bracelet from New Look. They'll look great with this top but will also brighten up any outfit. Accesories are the perfect and also cheapest way to update a look  - I'll be wearing these many times!

I've been on the look out for a summery clutch bag for a while so when I came across this yellowish green one on New Look's website I ordered it straight away. At just £9.99, minus student discount it was an absolute bargain! I won't be wearing the top, bag, necklace and bracelet together as it may be a little too much, but this bag will definately serve me well.

Neon green is my staple this summer, what's yours?

Summer Sandal must!

Sandals are everywhere at the minute- there's no escaping them. Everytime I open up a magazine I see the celebs on the red carpet in their beautiful dresses with some gorgeous yet so simple sandals.

They look effortlessly chic with any outfit. Rihanna is often seen wearing them dressed up to events and casual with jeans. Kim Kardashian has also been seen wearing them and they just look amazing with any outfit.

The high street has so many sandals to offer - there is something for everyone. The likes of Zara and Topshop have some lovely bright colours to choose from so you can snap up two summer trends in one!

Today I purchased these little beauties. I've wanted some red heels for ages so was ecstatic when I saw these red sandals for just £12 in Primark. £12!!! What a bargan - I am so pleased!

I've never purchased a pair of heels from Primark before but they look good quality upon my close inspection - hopefully they will last!

Unfortunately, I have so many deadlines and exams coming up that I won't be wearing them out for a while however they are so simple and elegant I think they'll look great throughout this summer and next.

I can't wait to wear them. They'll look great with a black or white dress. They also look cool with trousers and jeans - they are so versatile, the possible outfits are endless.

I LOVE THEM!

Will you be buying any summer sandals?
